Itinerary: about 2,5 hour drive from port to Berlin. About 6 hour sightseeing tour in Berlin with several stops, short walks and lunch break. Drive back from Berlin to the port. The tour can be customized according to your individual needs. For booking please forward the name of the ship and time of arrival.
The ride in an air-conditioned minivan (for larger groups a coach will be deployed) from Warnemünde to Berlin takes about 2.5 hours. You will be met by your English-speaking guide there, and he or she will show you the highlights of Berlin on an extensive 6 hours sightseeing tour. As the way back to the ship will take another 2.5 hours and you need to have some extra time in case of traffic congestions, please make sure to have at least 14 hours time between the ship´s arrival and departure. This tour shows you all the major sights of the city like the boulevards Kurfürstendamm and Unter den Linden, the Victory Column, the Reichstag, the TV Tower etc. Nevertheless, the focus will be on the city´s turbulent history in the 20th century. You will see Brandenburg Gate where the Nazi hordes marched on the day Hitler seized power and where the Berlin Wall made sure that noone would be walking through for almost 30 years. Next to Brandenburg Gate there is the Holocaust Memorial, a central place of commemoration dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. It is located in 2 minutes walking distance from the place where Hitler committed suicide in his bunker in 1945. Visit Checkpoint Charlie, the hot spot of the Cold War where the future of mankind was hanging on a bare thread during the tank confrontation in 1961. See remaining parts of the wall right next to the exhibition “Topography of Terror,” where Himmler´s SS and Gestapo headquarters were located until 1945, and Goering´s former Ministry of Aviation (the building is nowadays serving as Germany´s Ministry of Finance). We will take you to the Wall Memorial at Bernauer Strasse where people were jumping out of their windows in 1961 and a part of the former death strip has been turned into an open-air museum today. Other highlights that can be visited are, for example, the East Side Gallery (longest remaining part of the Wall), the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park or the Olympic Stadium where the propaganda games were held in 1936.
The tour will include a lunch break and ample time for visiting one of Berlin´s museums or going shopping, if you wish to do so.
