The tour starts at Potsdam´s Central Railway Station where you will meet the guide and collect your bikes. After a short safety introduction, the tour starts with a ride across the river Havel into the old town with the reconstructed City Palace and the marvelous St. Nicholas Church. The tour takes you to the Dutch Quarter and the Russian village Alexandrovka, to the palaces of Sanssouci and through the splendor of the palace gardens. You will see the former KGB prison, where political prisoners were held when Potsdam was part of the East German socialist state GDR, Glienicke Bridge, where spies were exchanged during the Cold War, and Cecilienhof Palace where the Potsdam Conference was held after the end of World War II. It also includes an extensive lunch break, for example, at Gutshof Bornstedt, at the Mövenpick Cafe next to Sanssouci Palace or at one of the charming cafes in the old town. The tour ends back at the Central Railway Station where the bikes can be returned.
During this tour you will see:
- Alter Markt and Neuer Markt in the old town with their representative architecture
- Potsdam´s Brandenburg Gate with its golden crown
- Glienicke Bridge, the “Bridge of Spies” starring famously in Steven Spielberg´s movie
- Cecilienhof Palace where Truman, Stalin and Churchill made history
- Magnificent views of Potsdam´s palaces and gardens along the riverbanks of the Havel
- Alexandrovka, a village in the Russian log house style
- Postcard view of Sanssouci Palace with its world famous terraced vineyards
- Sanssouci Gardens with the golden Chinese House, the Dragon House and Orangery Palace
- New Palace, the largest and most beautiful of Potsdam´s numerous palaces
If you bring your own bikes, the tour can start and end anywhere in Potsdam. Keep in mind that this is a private tour that can be customized according to your preferences.
Interior Tour of Cecilienhof Palace
An interior tour of Cecilienhof Palace with audioguides can be part of the tour. It takes about half an hour, and the bike tour will be extended accordingly. Larger groups must be registered in advance. The palace is closed on Mondays.
Interior Tour of Sanssouci Palace
An interior tour of Sanssouci Palace takes more time and can therefore only be scheduled as a follow-up to the tour. The bike tour can end at the palace where you can purchase tickets for the next available time slot (please note that the palace is closed on Mondays). While waiting for your turn to visit the palace, you can sit down at Mövenpick Cafe or the nearby Gutshof Bornstedt and have a lunch break. Please note that tickets might not be available if the number of visitors is too high. Alternatively we can buy for you a premium ticket (which is also valid for a number of other palaces) in advance.
